    The Plastics Roadmap for Finland, prepared by a cooperation group appointed for this purpose, has been submitted to Minister Tiilikainen. The roadmap is the first step towards a new, sustainable plastic economy. Of the more than 100 proposals made, the roadmap now presents a set of key actions to find solutions to challenges caused by plastics.

The biggest reasons for the overshoot are related to animal-based food production and to greenhouse gas emissions arising from transport and housing.

The annual forum reviews progress in attaining the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) (2030 Agenda) that were adopted in 2015. Finland’s focus will be on sustainable development of the Arctic region.

    The key task for Finland’s Chairmanship is to update the Baltic Sea Action Plan. Also on the agenda is the preparation of a regional nutrient recycling strategy for the Baltic Sea and further analysis of the impacts of climate change in the area.

  • More than 8 000 hectares of new protected areas to Finland as 100th anniversary gifts 2018-05-30
    The campaign My Nature Gift to the Centenarian organised to celebrate Finland’s 100th anniversary of independence encouraged landowners to designate their sites for protection during 2017. The surface area of these new areas totalled 3 064 hectares. In addition to this, the municipalities protected 1 980 hectares of their lands. Now the State has also selected the sites where, in accordance with the campaign pledge, it will double the number of hectares covered by private protection decisions.
