Structural funds – subsidies for environmental projects from EU structural funds

The European Union aims to reduce economic and social differences between regions, using structural funds to implement regional and structural policy.  Structural funds are also used for environmental projects.

The EU subsidises environmental projects in Finland from two structural funds: the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF)

Programme for Sustainable Growth and Jobs 2014–2020

Sustainable growth and jobs 2014 - 2020 is the national programme for implementing the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF). The programme functions in the Finnish territory except Åland.

The programme implements the Europe 2020 strategy. It supports, among other things, the shift towards a low carbon economy, The EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and Sustainable Urban Development.

The Ministry of the Environment participates in the preparation of the programme and ensures that an environmental viewpoint is taken into account in programme work.
