Environmental impacts of the Ministry’s activities

Ekovirasto, logoThe Ministry seeks to minimise its environmental impact.

The Ministry is using an environmental management system, MoE Green Office, introduced in June 2008. The system monitors the environmental impacts of the following functions: travel, procurement, building management (energy and water consumption, and waste) and paper consumption (publishing, photocopying and printing).

The Ministry’s employees are encouraged to meet the targets set out for the Green Office system.

The Ministry of the Environment is part of WWF's Green Office network

The Ministry of the Environment has been a member of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Green Office network since 2011. The membersip is evaluated by WWF in regular inspections of the Ministry's environmental programme as well as via annual reporting.

The Green Office is an environmental management system for offices. With its help, workplaces are able to reduce their burden on the environment, achieve savings in material and energy costs, and slow climate change.
